Can Hong Kong become Asia’s Green Finance Hub?

In order for the Paris Agreement targets to be met, the financing of the climate actions will play a critical part for success.  There has been some significant developments in the Green Finance space in Hong Kong, China and around the world.  However, this is still quite nascent in development and multiple stakeholders will need to align their interests for Green Finance to take off and become mainstream in financing decisions.

Hong Kong is in the prime position to influence this development.  With environmental performance being a key focus of China’s 13th Five Year Plan, and also green developments for the Belt and Road Initiatives, Hong Kong can take a leading role in green financing development in Asia and beyond.  What are those steps that are needed to maximise the chance of success?  Does Hong Kong have the will and the commitment to grab this opportunity?  Let’s explore.
