Adaptation and Resilience Measures on Slope Safety in Hong Kong

Since the establishment of the Geotechnical Engineering Office (GEO) in 1977, the Hong Kong Slope Safety System has been set up and improved over time.  Recently, there are new challenges arising from the more frequent occurrences of extreme rainfall events under the influence of climate change and they should not be overlooked.  A suite of ‘adaptation’ and ‘resilience’ measures to strengthen the landslide risk management is being pursued. These measures serve to identify the adverse effects of the extreme rainfall events, improve the system robustness, and enhance the community's emergency response capacity to severe landslide incidents.
